Most Dominant Madden Team of the Modern Era?
In 2003, Madden changed forever. With the emergence of online play, Madden was transformed from a game which was primarily based around the single player experience to a game which had unlimited multiplayer appeal. With this new era online play, the importance of Player/Team ratings took on a whole new level. This article will look at the most dominant teams of the modern madden era.
2003 Eagles
In 2003, the defenses were not ready to deal with a scrambling quarterback. Donovan Mcnab ran around defenders leading to what some affectionately, (or not so affectionately) referred to as “Philly Magic.” While the offense lacked any elite playmakers outside of the quarterback position, Mcnab’s unique skills were enough to allow the Eagles offense to dominate. The defense was also spectacular featuring one of the best secondarys in the history of Madden including Brian Dawkins, Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, and Blaine Bishop.
2004 Falcons
Before he was brutalizing dogs, Michael Vick was the cover boy for Madden 2004. The 2004 versions of Michael Vick was, perhaps, the most dominating player in the history of Madden. The Falcons had average talent outside of Vick but he proved to be enough as his speed and big arm were nearly impossible to contain. Throw in Peerless Price and you have one hell of an offense.
2004 Vikings
Daunte Culpepper, Randy Moss, Micheal Bennet, Kelly Campbell, SPEEEEEEEED. This team was all about offense, but so was madden. This team simply had too much speed for the defense to match. To contain Culpepper was to leave open Moss, to cover him to allow the run. Pick your poison
2005 Eagles
Madden 2005 was all about the defense. The addition of defensive playmaker plus improved defensive awareness made this the year of the defense. However, this was also the year of the Eagles. The acquisition of Terrell Owens plus the emergence of Bryon Westbrook gave the Eagles a dual threat at QB, an elite WR, and a weapon out of the backfield. Basically, this was the 2004 Vikings with a Great defense! Shotgun tight, corner route to Owens, defend that.
2006 Colts
Vision and precision was a failed experiment. It gave the Quarterback a field of vision in which he could throw. However, when you have Peyton Manning and your vision is the entire field, you have a huge advantage. Add that Edgarin James, Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Brandon Stokely and a great offensive line and you have an unstoppable offense. Having Freeney, Mathis, Sanders, and Doss didn’t hurt either
2007 Eagles
Madden 07 was the first game to be somewhat widely played on “Next Gen.” However, the gameplay took a major step backwards. Whereas in the past Madden always favored the offense, in 2007 playing defense was simply futile. Shallow cross, Deep Cross, Goal line, dominated 07. However, this game was all about speed and deep routes. In addition, the defenses forgot how to contain mobile quarterbacks. Add that all up and the Eagles dominate again. Defending the speed of Stallworth took full concentration, leaving Westbrook and Mcnab to destroy what was left of the defense. In addition, the Eagles boasted one of the best defenses in the game making them the most complete team in the game.
2008 Patriots
What happens when you take the same type of Elite QB which made the 06 colts dominate and give him the WR which helped the 2004 Vikings dominate, along with the WR which helped the 07 Eagles dominate, mix that up with Wes Welker, Ben Watson, and Laurence Maroney? You get the best offense in the history of Madden. What happens when you add in SPC catch? You get the most dominating offense in the history of madden? What happens when you in a 99 OVR defense? Well, you get the 2008 Patriots, the most dominating team in the history of the game.
